Wilmington Pacific is my fic. Of course I wanted a very Espee vibe, (don't we all) but operating on a shortline/regional scale. Doomer was very kind in letting me use his GP40-2s as a start.
As for the route, I basically copied the lower Los Angeles Basin in terms of trackwork. Set in the 70s, this is a little after MTA stopped trolley service in LA, after purchasing PE from MCL. WilPac operated the remaining passenger service from Wilmington to LA over PE's old Long Beach line. Often running long-hood-forward, it has a very Peninsular Commute vibe. I have yet to convert Doomer's GP40-2s to passenger use.
Some quick lore:
Wilmington Pacific was started by a group of businesses and local investors to handle regional train operations in Southern Los Angeles County.
WilPac (This became the standard abbreviation to reduce confusion with Western Pacific) hauled freight between a few major points, Wilmington, and the Port of LA area, to Los Angeles where it interchanged with SP, and West Anahiem, where it interchanged with ATSF. SP handled the primary switching duties in the Ports, interchanging to WilPac.
WilPac served few customers aswell, including National Produce, Signal Hill Naval Base, and a sand company.
BNSF purchased WilPac in 2001.
In 1978, SP and WilPac ordered a batch of GP40-2s. WilPac was a major benefactor or SP in terms of locomotives, that they got the SP paintscheme treatment. This became 6800 Class of GP40-2s, 6800-6825 (26 units).
As for rolling stock, WilPac purchased primairly from FMC, buying cabooses, and in partnership with Interstate, reefers.
